How To Bring More Matcha Into Your Life (And Why It’s Important)

Like many of us, my love affair with Matcha started with a Starbucks’ Matcha Latte a few years back. Roughly around the Junior Year of High School era- I had graduated from the frappucinos, but hadn’t quite advanced to iced coffees yet.

These days, sometimes the jittery iced-coffee induced caffeine-high gets to me in more of the “can’t sit still, but can’t focus on a single thing” way and less of the “let’s get shit done” way. This is when I know it’s time to take a BREAK from the beloved iced coffees. And, this is when I usually come back to matcha. Now, why matcha?

Well, to put it simply- Matcha is a miracle.

And, not so simply, the benefits are countless. Matcha containes L-Theanine, which calms the mind and relaxes the body, providing you with a sustainable caffeine rush that is longer lasting, more focused, and less jittery than coffee. The miracle tea is TEN TIMES more potent than a regular cup of green tea, and is rich in vitamin c, fiber, chlorophyll, zinc, magnesium, and antioxidants aplenty. Like a multivitamin, but so much tastier. And last, but certainly not least, Matcha will boost your metabolism and detox the body, all while lowering your cholesterol. It’s a win, win, win, win situation.

So keep on keeping on ordering your $5 lattes, but don’t stop there. Cook with Matcha. Rub it on your body. Bathe in it. Throw your Matcha powder in the air and let the bountiful healing properties rain down onto you. Curly girls, this one is for you! I received this mask as a Christmas present in 2017 and still have half the container left. Is it because I’m stingy, or because it’s such a luxurious and thick mask you only need a little to go a long way? Both. The combo of brushing, detangling, the summer sunshine, and showering with chlorinated water takes a toll on curls rather easily. This mask is AMAZING for softening the hair, especially pre-detangling. The smell is just divine, the texture is literally butter, and the mask noticeably locks in moisture for the following week. Added bonus: some masks only work their magic when left in for a long period of time, but I find this one actually works the best when I leave it in for about 15 minutes and wash it out at the end of my shower. Your hair and your nose will totally thank you for this one.

If you ever have the chance to watch, or take part in, a Japanese tea ceremony, lucky you. The beautiful tradition is so carefully orchestrated and full of meaning from the start to the last sip. Now, as a busy 8-5’er who usually has about 3 minutes to whip together my Matcha in the morning, it’s a lot less meaningful of a process- but still manages to bring a few mindful minutes to my day. With any matcha moment, Organic  is the real key here, because you want to insure you’re fully soaking up all of the health benefits that nature intended for you to enjoy.

BananaBloom‘s Iced Matcha Latte Shake



1/2 tsp matcha powder

1tbsp maple syrup (or other sweetener of choice)

1 cup oat milk or other plant based milk (Tina uses Oatly)

a whole tray of ice


ā€¢ Whip ingredients in the blender.

ā€¢ Blend on High until ice is in smithereens.

ā€¢ You now have a frothy, floofy drink! Pour into a glass, pop a sustainable metal straw in, sip, and enjoy!
